Kapyaan Festival: Celebrating Abundance and Culture

The Kapyaan Festival is a festival of the Day of Establishment of the town of Jose Abad Santos in the province of Davao Occidental.

The festival is held every 18th to 20th of February, coinciding with the founding anniversary of the creation of the province.

It is also a thanksgiving celebration for the good year and abundant harvest of the province’s products like pineapple, rice, corn and more.

The 2014 Kap’yaan Festival was not only celebrated because of the abundance of the province but also the richness of its culture as well, officials said. Themed “Salute our Ancestors, Culture and History to a prosperous people,” Jasenos (the people of Jose Abad Santos) took pride in showcasing their bountiful culture through various events, such as cultural night participated by teachers, traditional horse fighting, agro-trade fair, B’yang JAS Mutyang JAS (a beauty pageant) and the highlight which is Sayew de Dalan or street dancing.

The Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jimmy Joyce left no stone unturned in preparation for the week’s Kap’yaan Festival, with all the 26 barangays joining to make the annual festival a huge success. The Kap’yaan Festival celebrates the founding anniversary of the municipality with an agri-trade fair and a civic military parade.
